John Lannes was a member of Steam Laundry Workers’ Union #26, an historical labor union organization based in San Francisco, which was active during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Represented workers in commercial steam laundries, participating in local labor federations, trades assemblies, and campaigns regarding labor conditions and union cards in San Francisco.

Mar 28, 1903: Theresa Lannes, wife of John Lannes, is committed to Mendocino State Hospital at the age of 42. It was officially located in the unincorporated community of Talmage, California (about 2.5 miles east-southeast of Ukiah in Mendocino County.

Originally founded as the Mendocino State Asylum for the Insane in July 1889, construction began in 1891, and it formally opened in July 1893. It was later renamed the Mendocino State Hospital. It functioned largely as a self-sustaining campus with a working farm, dairy herd, orchards, kitchen, and bakery, alongside programs for addiction rehabilitation and the criminally insane.
