Book Launch at Readers’ on Nov 13, 2014:
I posted on Facebook that my book launch on Thursday night was a “Life Event.” It absolutely was. I felt held, seen, heard, and loved. It was joyous with my heart filled to the brim. It could very well be the high point of all this (and you know what, it would be enough) or it will be seeds of my book going further than that room and my circle of friends.
People say their life passes before their eyes just before they think they’re going to die, but mine presented itself that night. I was touched by how many from my past and present were there. Most do not get this kind of acknowledgment until they’re dead, and some don’t even get it then. I’m glad I was able to be there for mine. A hundred+ people came: friends, family, community, a few I didn’t know. The crowd was out the door, and I was over the moon.
Sonoma Index-Tribune, Sonoma Valley Sun, Bohemian, Nov 2014:
Sonoma, California— On Thursday, November 13, 7:00 pm, at Readers’ Books in Sonoma, Catherine Sevenau, a longtime Sonoma Valley resident and Realtor, will read selections from her new book, Passages from Behind These Doors: A Family Memoir. Reception to follow.
Sevenau’s memoir explores a turbulent childhood: the breakdowns and broken dreams of her fractured family; being raised by a thirteen-year-old sister who was put in charge of her upbringing, and living with an unhinged mother. The narratives are told with brutal honesty, humor, irreverence and grace, reflecting her will to not only survive, but to thrive.
Passages from Behind These Doors reflects the complicated and sometimes messy relationships that come with family, along with the possibility of transforming our lives into something brilliant. Sevenau says, “It’s about laughter and tears, sin and prayer, good intentions and unattended sorrows; it’s about all that, and about keeping a family together.”
Her book is a preview and sweet taste of the forthcoming unabridged version. Available in audio, eBook, and paperback.
