Sep 11, 1953: Discharge of Willard Joseph Chamberlin, Jr. from military service
As I Was Told:
Willard was part of a crew that flew VIP personages in a four-engine converted cargo plane over Indochina during WWII (referred to as flying the hump): Winston Churchill (he had fur-lined toilet seat), Madam Chiang Kai-shek, (who changed her clothes 4 or 5 times a day and slept on satin sheets), and George Marshall (chief of staff of American troops and Secretary of State who instigated the Marshall plan).
He repeatedly ran away from home as a teenager. He liked his vodka & orange juice and cigarettes, was a funny and fabulous storyteller, was patriotic, and always saw the better part of life; his sister Jo inherited the RV he lived in, his small checking account, his machete, and his extensive collection of Jim Beam bottles. Joe spent a great deal of time in his later years in Mexico.
